How difficult is it to sell retirement insurance such as Medicaid and Medicare?

Question by Jennifer S: How difficult is it to sell retirement insurance such as Medicaid and Medicare?
I was offered a job to sell insurance to people age 65 and older that are retired. The company looks at areas that the consumer may need insurance in for themselves and their loved ones after they pass. It is a comission job, and that alone scares me. I have never worked off of a commission.
In regards to the first response. The truth is that I do not know a great deal about medicaid and medicare. I will learn the details if I accept the job. I am doing research by asking questions.

Medicaid is a state sponsored insurance for low income people, so you would not sell medicaid. Medicare is a government (national) insurance, generally for those on social security. You may sell medicare supplemental insurance, that goes with Medicare. That supplemental insurance picks up what Medicare won’t. Wow, if you do this, please for your clients sake do alot more research.

Medicaid and Medicare are welfare insurance programs – you can’t sell them – they can only be bought through your state governmental office. It’s almost impossible to sell medicaid supplemental programs – if they are even out there. The clients HAVE no money.

It’s difficult to sell medicare supplemental programs.

Ask the company to talk to someone they hired 6 months ago, 4 months ago, and 2 months ago, to see what THEY thing. Ask them how many people were hired with them, and how many are left.

If you are afraid of commission jobs, then insurance sales is not the job for you. In this job, you have to sell something to a customer that he/she cannot touch. You sell promises that may not be needed for years.

Try a different sales position first.
